The neighbor of Haría Joaquín Reyes Betancort, known as Chichi, passed away this past Friday in Lanzarote. The traditional potter of Haría was a well-known artisan of the island, who throughout his life fought to preserve the Canarian cultural legacy.
Ceramist and artisan, Joaquín Reyes was a very beloved figure in the municipality. With work always linked to traditional Canarian pottery, based on manual labor, using Lanzarote clay and a wood-fired oven.
The man from Lanzarote was very critical of Canarian craftsmanship that was sold in the markets, warning that "it despises our culture."
The Government group of Haría has shown its condolences to their loved ones and family. "With his/her departure, a benchmark is gone, but his/her contribution to popular culture will remain present generation after generation," has stated the political formation Compromiso por Haría on its social networks.
The wake will take place this Saturday, April 4, from 10:00 in the morning until 18:00 hours in the afternoon at the Municipal Wake House of Haría. In addition, the mass will be at 18:30 hours this same Saturday in the municipal cemetery of the municipality.
