The Plaza de la Ermita de Mancha Blanca has been the venue for the last preparatory meeting of the security device that will be established on the occasion of the Romería de Los Dolores this Saturday, September 10th.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the island's Security Consortium, the Tinajo City Council and the group of security, emergency and NGO's that will be part of a device of more than 150 people.

Among the issues discussed was the implementation of a video-surveillance system, consisting of fifteen surveillance cameras located at strategic points along the route of the pilgrimage, such as the areas of the Farmer's Monument, La Vegueta and the Plaza de Mancha Blanca itself, where thousands of pilgrims will arrive on pilgrimage. In addition, most of the cameras allow both fixed shots and rotation, in order to have information and activate the necessary resources to deal with the incident.

This system will be reinforced with the presence of a helicopter and a state-of-the-art drone to monitor the flow of pilgrims and supervise any incidents that may occur, providing live images in the event of any circumstances that may occur during the pilgrimage.

For the president of the Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, "the use of new technologies is a fundamental support to have up-to-the-minute information and guarantee the safety of such popular festivities that will bring together thousands of people on the routes to the hermitage in Mancha Blanca and in the events that will take place on the occasion of Los Dolores".

"We would like to thank all the administrations, security forces, emergency services and NGOs for their involvement, as well as call for citizen collaboration to ensure that the festive days pass with absolute normality", added Bergaz.

During the meeting, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, and the director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Juan Ramón Pérez Borges, agreed to stress that "teamwork and the commitment of everyone is essential for the security device to be a success".
