The Civil Guard presented a report to the Arrecife Prosecutor's Office on July 16 against the head of volunteer firefighters of the Yaiza City Council, Patricio Cazorla, for the management of a fire that took place at the Finca de Uga, owned by businessman Juan Francisco Rosa, on July 13, in which two firefighters had to be treated for smoke inhalation. According to the newspaper La Provincia, this matter has ended up in court due to an alleged lack of diligence on the part of Cazorla.
From Civil Protection of Yaiza they affirm that they are not yet aware of this complaint. Meanwhile, from the Civil Guard they have indicated to La Voz that a complaint has not been filed with the Prosecutor's Office, but rather an "informative diligence" warning and informing of the events that occurred in this fire.
In the document presented by the Civil Guard, and which has been published by La Provincia, it is stated that Cazorla "did not provide information to the agents about the situation of the materials that could be found in the place, nor of the houses located in the surroundings of the garage, in case it was necessary to request reinforcements to evacuate the nearby areas or enable a necessary distance of security cordon".
The Insular Emergency Consortium and the firefighter Carlos Franquis were also at the scene, who gave indications to better manage the fire. However, according to the Civil Guard, "the head of Civil Protection of Yaiza obstructed the work of the professional firefighters and on two occasions refused to leave the front line of intervention at the scene and occupy a more delayed place, despite not having adequate protection equipment, such as a self-contained breathing apparatus." "In addition, he ordered the volunteers to remove the municipal material because he did not agree with the corporal's orders," says the Benemérita, according to La Provincia.
These disagreements and problems "delayed the extinction of the fire" and "endangered the safety of the agents who participated in the intervention," says the Civil Guard, which is why it has decided to present a report to the Prosecutor's Office. Finally, the volunteers ended up providing the material to the Consortium and Cazorla left the area where the fire had occurred.
