The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty through the Canary Islands Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA) has announced the granting of aid for the transformation and bottling of wines with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) produced in the Canary Islands and for improving competitiveness in the external marketing of wines. The financial allocation of line I.6 is 1,480,000 euros, which amounts to an aid of 0.24 euros per liter of wine that has the PDO certification, while the total amount of I.7 is 250,000 euros, which translates into 0.70 euros per liter.
The director of the ICCA, Luis Arráez Guadalupe, stated that the objective of these subsidies is to "compensate for the effects of the additional costs derived from the outermost region, which entail additional burdens in strategic inputs from abroad and in inter-island logistics." This also aims to reduce the excessive costs involved in selling wines with these characteristics outside the Archipelago due to the outermost region.
The holders who can benefit from these aids are those whose wineries are registered in the registers of the Regulatory Council or management body of the corresponding PDO. Also, those producers who market wines outside the Islands, provided they are registered in the corresponding bodies.
