The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has agreed to terminate the contract for the construction and subsequent operation of the Tahíche elderly people's residence "due to non-compliance by the successful bidder".
In this way, the Island Council is initiating the procedure to terminate this contract, ensuring that it will take charge "of the materialization of the project and its operation."
"Given the unsustainability of the situation, not only is the initiation of the file being carried out, but we will seek to give continuity to the project that the Institution already has and we will try to continue the work so that this important Residence goes ahead,” said the president, María Dolores Corujo.
“In the last three years, we have not stood idly by, but have tried to ensure that the successful bidder complied with the contract, while at the same time resolving the urban planning problems for the construction of the residence,” he added.
The Minister of Social Rights, Isabel Martín, explained that the financial situation of the successful bidder has not allowed them to continue with the project, so they were breaching the contract.
“The solution is to give a response to the citizens and our priority is to improve our capacity and quality of care for this group,” said the minister.
