The Island Council of Lanzarote has put out to tender the drafting of the project for the work of renovation of the public lighting of the town of Haría "with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of the facilities, with the consequent economic and energy savings for the Island".
“Our objective is to maximize energy efficiency, in line with Lanzarote's commitment and involvement in sustainability and environmental care,” explains the president of the Island Council, María Dolores Corujo, who adds that public entities “must promote savings in energy consumption, serve as a model for citizen awareness and offer solutions to economic and environmental problems.”
In this line, she considers it "essential" that citizens "become aware that any action in this regard is justified for the future of Lanzarote as a sustainable island, in addition to, of course, representing a very important economic saving in the energy bill that all Lanzarote residents pay.”
For her part, the Minister of Energy, Ariagona González, has detailed that the bidding budget amounts to 10,545.89 euros as a maximum value, including taxes, and the deadline to enter the contest extends until May 10.
“The replacement of existing lighting with more advanced technology and the burial of the power supply network will mean a very important environmental improvement for an island like Lanzarote, where we prioritize sustainability,” said the councilor.
"The call for this contest is part of the set of actions promoted by the Island Corporation to comply with the environmental objectives set by the European and national authorities and ensure that Lanzarote is placed on the map of responsible destinations in terms of sustainability", they highlight from the Cabildo
Specifically, they emphasize that "the replacement of public lighting with another that is more energy efficient contributes to achieving the objective of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions by 23% in 2030 compared to 1990 in Spain, which establishes the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2021/2030."
