Within the Improvement Program of facilities and equipment of the Island Slaughterhouse, co-financed with Funds for the Development of the Canary Islands (FDCAN), the supply of machinery for the slaughter and processing lines of pork, sheep-goat has been awarded, after an open bidding process, to the company Elías Jadraque S.A, for an amount of 225,721.45 euros.

"The regulations regarding food hygiene and animal welfare are increasingly demanding and, from the Cabildo," emphasizes Ángel Vázquez, "we have opted for the adaptation and modernization of these facilities, not only with the purchase of machinery but also with renovation and improvement works in the slaughter room and in the corrals."

Likewise, the improvement of the temperature inside the facilities has been included within the Improvement Plan of the Island Slaughterhouse, to guarantee the working conditions of the operators. These works, which were awarded to the company Arrober Montales S.L, for an amount of 24,118.5 euros, consisted of the supply and installation of four air extraction units; the waterproofing and heat-reflecting coating on the roof of the slaughterhouse and installation of polycarbonate sheets.

On the other hand, the supply of machinery for the bovine line has also been awarded to the company Estudios y Mecanización de Mataderos Españoles S.A, for an amount of 93,671.01 euros, as well as a new special stunning box for cattle and the adaptation of the enclosure for its installation for a total amount of more than 44,200 euros. On the other hand, the acquisition of a Sandach Tray, a stainless steel box for waste trucks, for nearly 9,000 euros, to the company Hidráulica Lanzarote, is also noteworthy.

The Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Ángel Vázquez, states that "this investment corresponds to a first phase of adaptation of the island slaughterhouse to European regulations," and anticipates that "new tenders are expected to be launched in the coming months, which will mean a total investment of more than 1.5 million euros."
