The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has announced that "finally, after years of waiting", the project for the improvement and conditioning of the LZ-409 road, which connects the towns of Mozaga and El Peñón, sees the light.
"This is a very deteriorated road, with many potholes and no signage. More than 15 years have passed since a small section was last paved, so it is a priority for the island government to condition this road and improve the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians," Corujo explained.
To the critical state of the asphalt pavement of this road, we must add the absence of horizontal signage in most of the road, the lack of vehicle containment elements and the continuous appearance of potholes due to disintegration of the granular material of the pavement.
The works, financed with own funds of the first Corporation, will have a base budget for bidding of 1,256,335.62 euros and "will consist of the conditioning and re-growth of the width of the road, the placement of safety barriers that will carry protection systems for motorcyclists, as well as the installation of the corresponding vertical and horizontal signage along the entire road", according to the Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina.
Likewise, the warning signage of curves, road crossings and succession of dangerous curves will also be reinforced. The sections in which overtaking is allowed will be more restrictive, according to current recommendations, and the speed limit throughout the road section will be set at 50 kilometers/hour. In addition, the prohibition of heavy vehicle traffic will be maintained.
Medina has announced that inter-administrative cooperation has already been requested from the City Councils of Tinajo and Teguise, to put these works out to public tender soon, the execution period of which will be three months.
