The Cabildo of Lanzarote has collected in the first semester of the year a total of 2,993 tons of household waste in its Clean Points Network for the collection and classification of waste that cannot be deposited in the usual containers.

Among the main wastes that are collected in the four facilities distributed throughout the island are oil, furniture and appliances, rubble, x-rays and aerosols, batteries, wood, tires, paints and varnishes, clothing and footwear, toner or garden pruning. At these same points you can also deposit paper and cardboard, cans and plastic and glass containers, for which there are specific household containers in the different municipalities.

Currently, the clean points are located in Arrecife, Playa Blanca, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen. In addition, a new facility will soon be opened in Costa Teguise.

The Waste Councilor highlights the importance of "continuing to deepen citizen collaboration to ensure that waste is properly separated from home and thereby facilitate its subsequent treatment and recycling".

In addition, Delgado recalls that these clean points are available to all residents free of charge and allow the collection of waste of special dimensions or characteristics that need another channel for recycling, or that may be toxic to give them special treatment, thereby favoring the sustainability of the island.

Figures and types of waste

Among the wastes that are most deposited in the clean points are construction debris. Thus, from January to June 2021, more than 1,000 tons of rubble have been collected on the island.

Also noteworthy is the amount of wood waste or debris, with 787 tons. This is followed by bulky waste with a total of 454 tons collected in the first half of the year. And finally, biodegradable waste from pruning, which in the first six months of 2021 totaled 313 tons.

The opening hours of the Clean Points are from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm, and Sundays and holidays from 9am to 2pm.
