In the midst of a debate about Lanzarote's tourism model, the cruise sector continues to break records on the island. In the first five months of the year, 344,807 cruise passengers arrived in Arrecife, 23.67% more than those who arrived in the same period of 2024. This is confirmed by the data on maritime traffic in the Port of Arrecife, collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.

January was the month with the highest number of cruise passengers, when 92,074 people arrived on the island. In contrast, last May was the lowest, with 11,988 people disembarking.

Compared to the previous year, in the fifth month of the year a 7.1% drop in cruise passengers was recorded. Meanwhile, compared to April arrivals, this represents 85.4% less.

So far this year, Lanzarote has already received more cruise passengers than arrived on the island throughout 2022. That year, 336,281 travelers stepped onto the Arrecife port on tourist cruises, according to figures from the Port Authority.

Therefore, if this trend continues, this year the island could surpass the 610,179 cruise passengers it received throughout 2024.
