The Chafariz reservoir, located in the Temisa valley of the municipality of Haría, has been the object of an action during the last months "to recover and conserve the fauna and historical heritage of the water in Lanzarote", since "its state turned it into a death trap for the animals" that were trapped when they came to drink, as pointed out by the Cabildo. This intervention has been promoted by the Department of Territorial Policy, Environment and Nature Classroom of the Corporation, managed by Marcos Bergaz, and by the Department of Environment of the City Council of Haría, in the hands of the first deputy mayor, José Pérez Dorta.

"The animals, especially birds such as kestrels, Eleonora's falcons, Egyptian vultures, warblers, but also other species such as rabbits or hedgehogs, when they came to drink, fell into the reservoir and could not escape, often dying by drowning," Bergaz said. "To solve this problem, we have proceeded to enable a ramp and a floating platform so that animals can drink water from the pond without risks," they said from the Cabildo.

Likewise, the Corporation has indicated that they have "undertaken cleaning work, removing several tons of waste and the surroundings of the reservoir have been conditioned, witness to times past when water was scarce and the population of the north of the island came to the Chafariz spring in search of the water resource."

Public officials have visited the reservoir and the gallery to see the state of the place once the intervention is finished. During the tour, José Pérez Dorta recalled that "the intervention was necessary, since in addition to safeguarding the animals in that environment, the Chafaríz reservoir is a mandatory reference in the water culture of Lanzarote that must be preserved to keep our memory alive and that serves as an aquifer for the local fauna." They also stressed that the spring of this reservoir was considered the most important freshwater aquifer in the northern municipality.
