Next Monday, November 6, the new EU security regulations come into force, including restrictions on hand luggage, which will affect all airports in the Canary Islands, Spain and the European Union, regardless of the destination of your plane.
The main restriction is on liquids, which must be checked in in almost all cases, with the exception of those authorized because they are liquids for special diets or baby food, as long as they are to be consumed during the flight. Any liquid purchased in the airport's commercial areas located after security checks may also be brought on board the plane without limitation. There is also no limitation on liquids in checked baggage.
Thus, according to Aena, only small amounts of liquids will be allowed in hand luggage. These must be in small containers with a maximum individual capacity of 100 ml.
Each passenger must also pack these containers in a transparent plastic bag with a self-closing device with a maximum capacity of no more than one liter (bag of approximately 20 x 20 cm.) to facilitate the inspection of these products at security checks.
By liquids, the regulations mean water and other beverages, soups or syrups, creams, lotions and oils, including toothpaste, perfumes, shower gel or shampoo, pressurized containers (shaving foam, other foams and deodorants), aerosols or others of similar consistency.
COMPUTERS AND COATS
Other restrictions imposed by the new regulations refer to laptops and large electronic equipment. From now on, when going through security, they will be removed from inside the hand luggage to be inspected separately by the agents.
Passengers' coats and jackets will also be inspected as separate pieces of hand luggage.
In addition to the measures mentioned to be applied from next Monday, the EU regulation establishes another complementary measure that will come into force on May 6, 2007, referring to the measurements of the suitcase, the well-known 'trolleys' or hand luggage bags, which must not exceed 56cm high, 45cm wide and 25cm deep.
Superior hand luggage, such as musical instruments or fragile or valuable items, must be presented by the passenger at check-in for approval as hand luggage and at the security checkpoint for inspection.
