Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Aena) informs in a statement that Lanzarote airport will make small adjustments to its operating hours at the request of Navegación Aérea, that is, "it is a measure independent of the Airport Efficiency Plan presented in June for airports with less than 500,000 passengers per year".
In the case of Lanzarote airport, the modification "involves a reduction of 60 minutes to its closing time".
The measure has been adopted in order to comply with Royal Decree of August 5, 2010, which establishes the activity times and rest requirements of civil air traffic controllers.
Since the publication of the Royal Decree, a period was opened for all Air Navigation units to adapt work shifts to this new regulation. The deadline for compliance is November 1, 2012, the day on which the new schedules will be effective.
No impact on flights
According to Aena, the aforementioned schedule adjustment does not affect the airport's operations, as it does not have scheduled flights in the time slots in which the schedule is modified.
On the other hand, the measure does not involve increasing the number of controllers in the affected units, a measure that is part of the company's current efficiency criteria.
