The mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, met this Tuesday in Tenerife with the Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, María José Guerra, to convey what is one of the main demands of the municipality: the construction of the new school of El Quintero. In the meeting, in which he was accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Alma María González, and by the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, Tejera told the Minister that "it is urgent to have a budget item to be able to execute the works as soon as possible", which are budgeted at 6,628,317 euros.
"The boys and girls of the CEIP El Quintero should not continue any longer in the ceded facilities, which were never conceived to house a teaching center, nor are the modular classrooms a long-term solution. The students need a center in conditions," the mayor stressed.
From the City Council, they recall that the project "has a technical and legal report" from the Consistory and that the resolution has already been sent to both the General Directorate of Educational Centers and Infrastructure of the Ministry of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
"The City Council has taken all the necessary steps so that these works can begin as soon as possible, we need to have funding and begin the execution of this claimed work, since for more than fifteen years this educational demand has been latent and it is time to provide solutions to students who have been in provisional classrooms provided by the City Council in Casa Ajei for years," said the mayor.
In addition, he thanked "the willingness shown by the Minister" and "the support of the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo." "We, as a City Council, are not going to give in to our demands, and this is one of the great demands and necessary investments for the municipality in terms of education," Tejera stressed.
According to the City Council, during the meeting, "other relevant issues such as transportation and the issue of modular classrooms" were also discussed.
