Ryanair's Head of Marketing and Sales for Spain, Luis Fernández-Mellado, has reminded the Canary Islands Government that the company he represents is willing to operate between the Islands after the closure of Islas Airways, if "the lifting of existing restrictions" is negotiated.
"Ryanair has always expressed its interest in increasing its operations and traffic in the Canary Islands, as well as reducing the price of tickets. However, the existence of a number of current restrictions that make no sense and are detrimental to users on island routes have been an obstacle for Ryanair when considering this possibility and applying its low fare policy on island flights," they explained in a statement.
The result of this situation is that "today it is cheaper to fly to London from the Canary Islands than to fly between the Islands."
Ryanair "has always left the door open to negotiate with the Canary Islands Government the lifting of these restrictions in order to operate in the island market, offering competition that translates into consumer protection and lower fares."
