Nueva Canarias has achieved this Wednesday the unanimous support of the Parliament to open the office in Mala for 24 hours with a continuous emergency service.

The spokesperson on the matter of NC, Esther González, has defended a non-legal proposition, based on the Cuidar el Norte project, of the secretariat of the progressive canaristas of Lanzarote, of Yone Caraballo.

Esther González argued the petition to the Government of the Canary Islands to carry out, as soon as possible, the appropriate studies and actions for the implementation of this Continuous Care Point in Mala. In addition, the party also obtained the favorable votes of the rest of the groups to provide the basic life support ambulance with a nursing professional in Arrieta.

Avoid saturation in the centers of the capital

The parliamentarian of NC said that the objective of the initiative is to facilitate the accessibility of users and patients from the north of Lanzarote to the public health system and avoid their transfers to the emergency services established in Valterra and in the Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital.

Therefore, they also seek to avoid the saturation of the care burden of the aforementioned centers, since the northern area of the island has a "growing rural and sports tourism activity"

"To bring the portfolio of services directly and coordinated in terms of emergencies, the users of these towns in the north and center of Lanzarote deserve the implementation, in the basic health area of Mala, of a point of continuous care "independent", with a sanitized ambulance, which provides coverage 24 hours a day", emphasizes Esther González.

Likewise, she added that the investment "does not represent a high cost to the Canary Health Service (SCS), since the aforementioned center has the necessary spaces for its implementation". "The increase in staff would be the only investment to be made by the council, observed the parliamentarian of NC", she stressed.

In this way, in her opinion, "accessibility and equity in the provision of health care in terms of emergencies in the northern area is guaranteed".

A sanitized ambulance in Mala

As a complement, González defended the need for the current Basic Life Support ambulance based in Arrieta to be considered a sanitized ambulance, based in the Mala office. "For this, it is only necessary to provide a nursing professional", explained Esther González.

For NC, this last request is justified because the island has two advanced life support units, with a doctor and nurse, plus the corresponding specialized equipment.

One of them, she explained, based in the Doctor Molina Orosa hospital and the other, in the Playa Blanca office. Both cover the central-southern axis of the island, while "the north simply has basic support, in Arrieta, provided by two emergency technicians", she insists.

Based on the foundations of the Yoné Caraballo project, which the unanimity of the Parliament supported through the NC group, an "island, like every home, must provide the necessary and sufficient conditions to live with dignity and tranquility", concluded the parliamentarian.
