The councilor of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in the municipality of Haría and spokesperson for the same local organization, Marcos Lemes, wanted to express his discontent with the attitude of Coalición Canaria (CC) in relation to health facilities in the northern municipality, in what he describes as “lies” and “contempt” for the inhabitants of this region.
Thus, Lemes has accused CC of “lying” to the residents of the municipality by announcing, after the approval of the 2024 Canary Islands budgets, an allocation of 1,200,000 euros for improvements to the Mala Clinic, and that a month before the end of the year, they have not been executed. Moreover, the Canarianist points out, who is also responsible for health in the Haría City Council, “the conditions of the Mala Health Center have worsened with closed bathrooms where patients cannot access when they go to the health center.”
For NC-bc, this "new lie" of CC is aggravated by the confirmation that in the next Canary Islands budgets for the year 2025, not a single item is planned for the Mala Health Center, neither to improve its facilities and equipment nor to incorporate the long-awaited 24-hour emergency service.
“It is a contempt for the northern region of the island that they lie so blatantly on such a sensitive issue as public health, and that a parliamentary agreement is violated, such as the implementation of the 24-hour Continuous Care Service in Mala,” says Marcos Lemes, who points out that “the municipality of Haría suffers from a deficit in health and emergency services, given that the Haría Health Center has personnel and infrastructure problems and no one from the Government of the Canary Islands has been interested in solving it.”
Overall, the organization chaired by Yoné Caraballo on the island has harshly criticized the upcoming regional accounts for once again discriminating against the “yellow islands” (Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa) in comparison to the percentage increase that the “green islands” will experience (El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma), being a meager 3.26% for the eastern islands and 36.1% more for the western islands. For this reason, and for many other reasons, NC-bc has registered an amendment to the entirety of the accounts.
“With this distribution in insularized investments, it will be difficult for islands like Lanzarote and La Graciosa to get out of the paralysis in public infrastructures such as health, since it will not be possible to build even one more health center, clinic or any equipment that guarantees the improvement in the quality of care for the people of Lanzarote,” Marcos Lemes sentenced.
