"Doctor Molina Orosa bequeathed us his spirit of participation and work," stated the Regional Minister of Health, this Thursday, during the meaningful act of renaming the General Hospital of Lanzarote, which has been renamed "Hospital José Molina Orosa." A spirit that, according to Roldós, "permeates this Hospital today, as well as the staff's interest in the constant renewal of knowledge required for patient care." During the event, in which a commemorative plaque and a bouquet of flowers were presented to the children of Doctor Molina Orosa, the Director of Health, María José Costa, and the Manager of the Hospital, Ramón García Cerpa, were present, in addition to representatives from various institutions on the island to pay tribute to this doctor from Lanzarote.

"My father would be very grateful to know that this great Hospital will be named in his memory," declared an emotional Lina Molina, one of the daughters of the illustrious doctor, who also had words of remembrance "for all those who are no longer with us." This tribute was intended to highlight the human dimension of this medical professional, a doctor for whom the practice of his profession was a commitment of dedication to those most in need.

Mercedes Roldós thanked "the work and commitment of each of the people who have been involved in the daily tasks," while highlighting "the professional and personal qualities of Doctor Molina Orosa," among which she emphasized his dedication to the creation and operation of the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote and, on the other hand, his vocation for sacrifice and his generous commitment in the performance of medicine."

This renaming of the General Hospital occurred after a non-legislative proposal was unanimously approved by all political parties in the Parliament of the Canary Islands last January.

Doctor José Molina was born on December 18, 1883, in Arrecife and was a precursor of the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote, inaugurated in 1950, when after practicing his profession with very few resources, he worked to raise awareness among the public and authorities about the need to create a hospital in Lanzarote, since at that time only two houses accommodated the sick from all over the island.
