The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, and the Minister of Tourism, Carmen González, officially presented Lanzarote European Sports Destination during an event held this Wednesday at the official headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee. This is one of the most outstanding promotional actions that the island takes to the Madrid Tourism Fair, Fitur 2011, one of the three most important held worldwide.
"There could be no better setting than this headquarters to present the great commitment that Lanzarote has made, making it easier for all entities, clubs, coaches, professional athletes and sports lovers in general from Spain and Europe to know that the island has the essential and quality infrastructure that allows, in addition to offering a tourist vacation of sun and beach, guaranteeing, in optimal conditions, those concentrations prior to the start of the sports seasons, as well as the group meetings so necessary to recharge batteries and be able to resume the competition in full physical and mental condition," said the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés.
To this end, the Tourism Board and the SPEL presented to a large group of tourism entrepreneurs and the media the more than 30 sporting events of 13 different disciplines that have been held in Lanzarote for years, being today "fully consolidated and with a great projection both inside and outside of Spain", they inform from the Cabildo through a statement.
Héctor Fernández, manager of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society, was in charge of detailing and highlighting the most important sporting events "that are already consolidated and that make Lanzarote a different and attractive place with a complementary offer that distinguishes it from any other destination". Hence, the Cabildo, through the Tourism Board, has made an effort to collect in an attractive and manageable calendar, which will be distributed in different formats.
Living dreams in Lanzarote
"All those sporting events that demonstrate that the climatic, beauty and infrastructure conditions make Lanzarote a unique and ideal place to attract a playful sports tourism that is eager for new destinations," added the Minister of Tourism, Carmen González, who also highlighted the implementation on the island of numerous leading companies in sports tourism.
This, according to González, "facilitates the consolidation of this new brand", as well as the good air connectivity that Lanzarote has with the rest of Europe "which is intended to be reinforced with new links through the working meetings that are being held within FITUR".
Finally, it should be noted that the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, as host of the presentation, also had words of gratitude towards the island of Lanzarote and its Cabildo for "remembering and betting on sport to diversify its main economic engine". He also stressed that Lanzarote "brings together everything we want to find when we want vacations", to conclude by saying that "every Spaniard and European who has dreams can live them in Lanzarote".
