The Tinajo City Council has ruled out opening the institution on Thursday afternoons, as agreed by the institution itself in a meeting that took place between the seven councils of the island and the Cabildo this Monday. In that meeting, the eight public institutions agreed to extend their hours and keep their premises open every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

However, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has distanced himself this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote from this agreement, despite the fact that the deputy mayor, Antonio Morales, was present at the aforementioned meeting, who voted in favor. "When I decide this, I do it because the workers had met in an assembly and did not want that schedule," Machín said.

In this way, the mayor of Tinajo has rejected the measure approved by his own deputy mayor. "I appreciate Antonio going to the meeting where this schedule was decided. He had been told: 'Antonio, let's stick to not opening on Thursday afternoons.' And he told me yes, but if there was no consensus? I told him to stick to it to achieve consensus," he said.

"Antonio and I didn't come to blows"

However, the deputy mayor finally agreed to extend the opening hours of the Tinajo City Council. "The agreement imposed by other city councils was reached," said Jesús Machín, who assured that "Antonio Morales has not broken his word." "I have changed things after talking to the workers. If anyone has broken the agreement, it has been me, because the workers also have the right to decide," he said.

The mayor of Tinajo also does not consider that he has "disauthorized" the deputy mayor for revoking his decision and has assured that "they did not come to blows", as several rumors pointed out. "I have no tension with Antonio Morales, when there has been any discussion it has been clarified. There was a clarification on this issue with Antonio, not a discussion. Some media said that we almost came to blows, what a lack of respect and education! That never, never in my life have I used my hands with anyone because dialogue exists for that. Nowadays, not even dogs come to blows," he assured.

Machín has already contacted the rest of the representatives of the municipalities of the island. "I have called the mayors and explained it to them. The problem is that we politicians accept agreements that we now have to backtrack on," he said. "It has become quite clear that the mayors will respect my opinion," he assured.

Machín is more in favor of employees working the five working days from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., that is, half an hour more per day. The mayor of Tinajo has assured that San Bartolomé also did not agree with opening the institution on Thursday afternoons and also preferred that its employees work half an hour more per day. However, San Bartolomé ended up accepting this agreement.
