The Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage of Arrecife, held this morning at the City Hall, has favorably approved two relevant actions for the conservation of the architectural heritage of the capital of Lanzarote: the restoration of the facades of the Yellow House — former headquarters of the Cabildo — and the renovation of the garage door of the Parish House of San Ginés.

The Councilor of Technical Office, Urban Planning and Urban Discipline, Maciot Cabrera, has positively valued the resolutions adopted by the Council, highlighting that "they are firm steps in the protection of our historical heritage, actions consistent with the environment and with the value that these properties represent for the city." "We continue to move forward with responsibility to ensure that the heritage legacy of Arrecife is preserved and transmitted in the best possible conditions," he added.

The Yellow House, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2004, will be the object of an intervention project promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote that contemplates the conservation of the ceramic tiles of its facades. The approved technical study includes actions such as the sanitation of walls, elimination of humidity, restoration of tiling, repair of decorative ornaments and improvements in the clock room, all under criteria of minimal intervention and maximum reversibility, in accordance with the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands.

As for the Parish of San Ginés, also cataloged as BIC, the Council has given the green light to the request for authorization to replace the current wooden garage door with another similar one with electric opening. The intervention, which has the favorable report of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, is part of the conservation actions allowed and does not affect the heritage value of the complex.

Both proposals comply with current regulations and have been prepared with the required technical support, complying with the consultation and inter-administrative authorization procedures provided.

The Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage, established in December 2023, acts as a key advisory body in the protection and restoration of local heritage. It is formed by representatives of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the CICOP, the College of Architects and municipal technicians.

"The work carried out by this council guarantees that each intervention in our heritage is evaluated with the necessary technical rigor and with an integrating vision that combines conservation and urban development," concludes Maciot Cabrera.
