The accesses to Arrecife and some of the busiest streets were already monitored with video cameras, but, from this week, two new points in the capital will be subject to this control. The Puerto Naos area and the fairgrounds have already been equipped with cameras to monitor traffic and, according to announcements from the City Council, it is a matter of days before they are launched.

For now, the channeling of the fiber optic is already finished and only the connection with the Traffic office of the Police is missing, so that these conflictive areas do not escape their control.

To date, other roads in Arrecife such as José Antonio, México, Triana, García Escámez and León y Castillo streets, in addition to several points on Medular Avenue, already had these surveillance cameras, but for some time there has been talk of the need to extend them to other points as well.

In fact, the accident that occurred last month on the road to Castillo de San José, near Puerto Naos, in which a young man lost his life, revived the debate on the need to improve surveillance in the area. And it is that both the port esplanade and the road that runs next to it have long been black spots in the capital's traffic, and there have already been many accidents caused mainly by young people, who in some cases use this road to star in authentic rallies, endangering their lives and those of those who circulate in the area.
