Eli Merino becomes part of the Popular Party. The general secretary of the PP in Lanzarote and candidate for the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, announced this Monday that Merino is officially within the formation. "I warned of my disassociation from Somos, I decided if I wanted to continue in politics, I decided to continue and I had to choose with whom and I have chosen the Popular Party", Eli Merino herself has also confirmed.

"She has chosen to join the party and we have given her a warm welcome", the popular leader acknowledged in an interview on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote. The current councilor for Infractions, Youth and Citizen Participation of the Arrecife City Council announced last February her disassociation with the Somos party, with whom she had acceded to the municipal corporation in the previous elections.

"I have had a great welcome, I have not been used to having support this time, I have been alone", defended the now popular. From her time in Somos, she thanks her former party colleagues for their work and effort and makes a special mention to Paula Corujo, who is now running with the PSOE for the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

"My ideological evolution is not a change of values, but of my way of acting. At this age I am being more conservative, but that does not mean that I do not believe in progress. You can be conservative and believe in progress", Merino insisted in an interview granted to La Voz de Lanzarote.

This announcement comes after the PP registered Merino in the WhatsApp groups of the formation. However, it remains to be determined if she will be on any list with the Popular Party. "The issue of the lists is, solely and exclusively, for the president of the party" in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Astrid Pérez, "who is the one who decides these issues although it is then ratified in the Insular Executive Committee", Medina added.

"Once we close the electoral lists, which I believe will be this week or next week, we will send them to the island committee for ratification". Once approved, the Popular Party will make presentations of the electoral lists in each of the municipalities of the island, starting with Yaiza and concluding in Haría.

This Saturday, the president of the PP in the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the Autonomous Government, Manuel Domínguez, closed the act of presentation of the popular candidates of Lanzarote to the city councils, Cabildo and Parliament of the Canary Islands. The event was also attended by the executive secretary of Health of the PP and vice president of the Congress of Deputies, Ana Pastor, and also the candidate for the Arrecife City Council, Astrid Pérez.

"It is the start of the electoral pre-campaign of the Popular Party", Medina affirmed during the morning program of Radio Lanzarote Onda Cero.

"People want change in those institutions in which we are not governing", he insisted this Monday in the radio interview. "There are so many people who have joined the party", Medina confessed. The increase in registrations has led the right-wing formation to convene an extraordinary meeting for this week in which to approve the registrations.
