Corujo in Parliament on the Titerroy homes

The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group for Lanzarote and president of the Cabildo, Dolores Corujo, lamented this Monday in the Plenary of the regional Chamber the "negligence" of the Arrecife City Council to unblock the rehabilitation and reform of the houses in the Titerroy neighborhood that are evicted due to their poor state of conservation, assuring that the Canarian Government has made available to the municipal Corporation all possible resources for its execution.

Corujo intervened in the plenary session with a question from the Socialist Group to the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing on the situation of the procedures regarding the houses in Titerroy, located in Arrecife, in which she recalled the "inaction" of the capital City Council to materialize the agreement signed with the Government of Spain and the Government of the Canary Islands by which 14 million euros were allocated for the rehabilitation and return of these families to their homes. "I know that there have already been two occasions in which to materialize it, but, unfortunately, the neighbors are still evicted, and that financing has not been able to be executed in any of the cases."

The socialist deputy stated that the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, has met on several occasions with the affected neighborhood associations and with the legitimate owners with the aim of raising a proposal so that the Government of the Canary Islands can help "in what may be within its competence", but that, even so, there has not been the same response from the City Council.

In this sense, she recalled the "commitment" of the Ministry of Public Works both to carry out an expert opinion on the situation of those houses, and to grant a subsidy of more than 350,000 euros to the Arrecife City Council "to be able to offer a definitive solution and that the owners can return to their homes with dignity."

For Corujo, finding an answer for these neighbors of Titerroy is a matter of "pure social justice", given that the Arrecife City Council "has not wanted to resolve this situation."
