"We believe that the paralysis of the agreement signed between the Lanzarote institutions and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, by which it was agreed to make available to the latter the land located in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood to build the university park of Lanzarote" Those have been the statements made from the Organization Secretariat of CC in Arrecife, which through a press release has recalled that the authorities of Fuerteventura have already shown their willingness to transfer the land immediately.
In the local committee of CC in Arrecife, chaired by Manuel Fajardo Feo, "the damage that can be done to citizens, to the educational, cultural and social life of Lanzarote, will be very serious if this opportunity is finally lost. We have the real possibility of creating a university area, of concentrating our university offer in one area and of promoting higher education on the island", they point out, adding that "at this moment it cannot be lost, so we call on the political responsibility of all parties".
Coalición Canaria of Arrecife has also reiterated its support for the revision of the General Plan of Arrecife, "always in accordance with the approval of this document as a sign and tool of progress of a modern city with a future".
The urban agreement of the university park, included in the Revision of the General Plan of Arrecife, has the support of the Board for the University, formed by representatives of the university schools of Tourism and Nursing, the UNED and the Official School of Languages, which supported the proposal of San Francisco Javier as the location of the park.
From CC they consider that "the opposition to the revision of the General Plan of Arrecife, paralyzed since 2005, not only puts impediments to the creation of the university area of San Francisco Javier, but also affects other crucial works, such as a congress palace", and that "all this allows the delay of our city and deprives citizens of the possibility of improving socially and economically, turning Arrecife into a city unattractive for modern initiatives and investment".
