The candidate of Somos Lanzarote-Nueva Canarias to the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the island visited the facilities of the Costa Teguise school this Tuesday, and has warned about the situation of education in Lanzarote. Rubio highlights what he considers "a discrimination against Lanzarote by the Government of the Canary Islands presided over by Coalición Canaria, which relegates Lanzarote to being the island with the most barracks".
"Clavijo and Coalición Canaria have shown that they do not have education among their priorities, since they systematically fail to meet the commitments made to the sector, and to the Parliament itself, since, in the opinion of the Platform that seeks to allocate 5% of GDP to education, 1,000 million euros have not been invested in the Canary Islands. In Lanzarote we suffer even more from this underfunding since we are the island with the most barracks, and that cannot continue like this," says Rubio.
"Lanzarote cannot continue to be mistreated in education"
Likewise, Borja Rubio stated that Lanzarote demands new investments in Education such as the Maneje institute, and he committed to the directors of the centers to carry out proposals that prevent "the Government of the Canary Islands from continuing to harm Lanzarote in education with impunity: filling the island with barracks, passing over teachers, AMPAS and centers in the organization of the courses, or delays such as in the La Destila School".
Regarding the situation of the La Destila School, he pointed out that it is "inadmissible and unjustifiable the neglect and delay". "Let us remember that the demolition of the previous infrastructure began in 2014 and it was not until two years later that the works began. In 2019, students are still unable to use the new school". He also recalls that the formation has already taken two initiatives to the plenary session of the Arrecife City Council for this purpose.
Finally, he concluded by stating that "he hopes that there will be a new government in the Canary Islands by 2019, which, compared to Clavijo's model, will put on the table that another Canary Islands is possible, where education has a central weight, and where the people of Lanzarote are not always discriminated against."
