The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, considers "unacceptable the image that is repeated every time several flights from non-EU countries converge at the César Manrique airport, as has happened again these days with long queues of tourists on the runway of the airport".
For Astrid Pérez “it is a priority that the State Government reinforce the presence of police officers at the airport” in order to expedite the visa of passports at the entrance and exit of passengers, and put an end to the endless queues and unnecessary waits. “It is neither the image that should be offered by the first gateway to the island nor the attention that tourists deserve on an island that works to improve the quality of all services”, highlights Astrid Pérez, who recalls that British tourism represents half of that which arrives annually to the island and that in 2024 reached 1.5 million visitors.
According to Pérez, “the volume of arrivals from third countries and the total influx of passengers registered by the airport, 8.7 million last year, clearly justify a general reinforcement of police personnel by the State Government and the implementation of measures that improve spaces and the operability itself”. “Our airport is among the top ten in the country in terms of passenger volume, but it has never been so abandoned and lacking in investment as in recent years”, denounces the leader of the Populars.
“Now we see how AENA announces large investments in the islands, but the truth is that there is no clear schedule nor do we know what specific actions will be carried out to improve the operational capacity of the airport, except for the union of the two terminals”, she concludes.
