The Arrecife City Council will support the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8 with various institutional events, in order to make visible the municipal support for the political, social and feminist demands of the entire country in favor of equality. The Councilor for Equality, Victoria Sande, on behalf of the Government group, invites the population of the municipality to make their own a complaint, through the protest event that will take place on Saturday the 11th, "which should be that of the entire society, men and women who aspire to a fair and equal coexistence, without violence and without fear".
The day of March 8 will open at twelve in the morning with the reading of the manifesto sent by the General Directorate of Institutional Policy of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), by Sande. The reading will take place at noon in front of the facade of the Town Hall, where since March 1 the violet ribbon has been displayed, representing the feminist struggle and against gender violence. In the afternoon, from six o'clock until midnight, the Castle of San Gabriel will be illuminated with spotlights of that same color.
On Saturday the 11th, starting at half past eleven in the morning, Arrecife will be the scene of the awareness program organized by the Forum against Gender Violence, of which the capital's City Council is a part.
A parade with protest banners between the Four Corners and the Plazuela, theatrical performances and the reading of the manifesto agreed by the women's groups, will emphasize the demands for equality and the fight against discrimination based on gender.
