The Arrecife City Council guarantees the free urban transport service on municipal buses. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, signed this Wednesday, January 29, the municipal decree where passengers of the Arrecife Urban Buses, who are holders of the Canarian Resident Card, will travel for free

With the signing of this municipal decree, citizens holding Canarian Resident bus passes will be able to continue enjoying the free municipal bus service in Arrecife.

The Department of Transportation and Mobility, led by Councilor Mario González Altube, "continues with more projects and improvements so that the capital of Lanzarote offers a municipal urban bus service appropriate for this 21st century."

The mayor and the councilor presented last December the two new urban buses, with capacity for 55 passengers, and 100% accessible, which are part of a plan to significantly modernize the bus service in Arrecife.

These buses, powered by electric energy, and equipped with air conditioning, are the first two acquisitions of this Government group, which will be joined in 2025 by the entry into service of another four large units.

Until now, Arrecife has a bus fleet with an average age of over 15 years, and in some cases 20 years of activity on the streets, and they are diesel combustion.

"The renewal of the municipal bus fleet is underway, in addition to these two large buses premiered last Santa Lucía day, the city has three small electric micros adapted for areas of the city with very narrow streets, and has closed the acquisition of four large units, which will provide a better service during this 2025," according to Councilor González Altube.
