The Arrecife City Council has announced the call for grants for university students residing in the capital who are studying outside the island in the current academic year 2021-2022.

The City Council points out that "an effort" has been made to increase the budget compared to the previous year, as they assure that it went from 170,000 euros to the "current 200,000 euros."

"We have managed to announce them during the current academic year and we are working to make the payment effective more quickly," says the mayor Astrid Pérez, who also announces that the budget they plan to approve this year is expected to increase "up to 250,000 euros the total amount allocated to help university students in Arrecife."

The Official Gazette of the Province publishes this Wednesday the call for this academic year with the regulatory bases and the subsidy modality, which details that it is by "competitive concurrence." The documentation to be submitted and the requirements of the beneficiaries, as well as the deadline for submitting applications, is set at 30 days from its publication in the BOP.

"In the call for the past academic year, a total of 591 families benefited from these subsidies, with an amount of 338 euros, which meant help in a time of difficult economic situation," says the Councilor for Education, Saro González.

The subsidies, which revolve around 200 and 350 euros depending on the number of applicants, are intended, as in previous years, "for university students or those in intermediate or higher-level training cycles, who are enrolled in centers whose headquarters are not located in Lanzarote."

"The procedure is simple and the documentation to be provided is the application, a photocopy of the applicant's ID or their representative's, the current registration, a responsible declaration that they are in a position to receive the aid, and the IBAN code of the bank where we will deposit the money," recalls the Councilor for Education, Saro González.

Applications can be downloaded from the Arrecife City Council website, or from the BOP. They will be addressed to the mayor, and will be submitted to the entry registry of the City Council or through the electronic headquarters. The requirements are: be a national of a member state of the European Union or a foreigner with a residence permit, be registered in Arrecife and enrolled in the 2021-2022 academic year.
