Armando Santana has been chosen as Nueva Canarias' candidate for Mayor of Arrecife for the next municipal elections in 2023. This was ratified at the extraordinary assembly that the canaristas from Arrecife held last Saturday, September 24, in Marina Lanzarote, before more than 200 people.
Santana, the only candidate who presented his candidacy, had the support of one hundred percent of the local assembly, guaranteeing the necessary confidence to lead this candidacy. Due to the adverse weather situation, part of the national leadership of Nueva Canarias that intended to support the candidate could not travel to the island of Lanzarote, but they did leave a message of support and confidence in a video shown to the attendees.
Both the president Román Rodríguez, as well as the vice president and mayor of Telde Carmen Hernández and the spokesperson for Nueva Canarias in parliament Luis Campos, showed their support for the candidate, recognizing "the important work carried out in recent years." Javier Franco, president of the young canaristas, also spoke at the extraordinary assembly about the problems of housing or unemployment that affect young canarians so much. Miguel Ángel Gil, vice president of Nueva Canarias Arrecife and head of Esperanza y Vida, and Remedios Alarcón, secretary of Organization, also spoke.
In his speech, the now candidate for mayor for Nueva Canarias, structured his speech in three blocks, the importance of the organization, the meaning of Nueva Canarias policies and the city model he wants for Arrecife. Santana thanked the local and national organization for their support, also making an important mention of the social work carried out by Nueva Canarias hand in hand with the NGO Esperanza y Vida Canarias "dedicated to helping and working for so many families in the capital of Lanzarote".
To govern," Santana added, "we must know how people think and what worries them, and those issues are exactly the same ones that should worry a candidate who wants to be mayor of the third capital of the Canary Islands." He also listed the main axes that will develop the electoral program of Nueva Canarias in Arrecife that "will be based on seven blocks, and this has been identified thanks to the work of recent years, where the organization has held countless meetings with residents, groups, associations and different representatives of Arrecife society."
"The urban environment, mobility and accessibility, security, the cultural and leisure offer, economic development or animal welfare are the main concerns of the residents of Arrecife and we are going to dedicate ourselves to them," Santana concluded.
