The Association of Tourist Entrepreneurs of Lanzarote, Aetur, has expressed great concern about the strike notice from the Aena unions and has considered this situation to be "a new attack on the economic recovery of Lanzarote and on the maintenance and creation of jobs". And, regardless of whether these days of stoppage, totaling 22 days from Easter to the end of summer, are finally carried out, Aetur has assured that with this announcement alone "cancellations will be made and a bad image will be transmitted".
"The mere announcement will mean an avalanche of cancellations that will add to the negative effects of the recent action of the controllers and the deviations due to the technical deficiencies of our airport", Aetur has assured through a statement.
For this association, "it is scandalous that the strategy of collapsing the tourism sector is used so repeatedly, with the consequent job losses that it entails, when the reason for the strike is a partial and minority privatization of Aena, without any provision having been made for the suppression of jobs".
For all these reasons, Aetur wanted to make its position clear with respect to the Aena officials, of whom it has assured that "they enjoy a privileged labor position, in correspondence to the work and effort of the workers and businessmen who have formed an attractive and successful tourist destination that millions of people want to visit".
"An unfair strike"
"The workers of the rest of the sectors of the island can contribute to discrediting unfair, selfish and immoral ways of claiming rights that overwhelm the right to work of all the others", Aetur has denounced, which has demanded that the Cabildo, the town councils and all the political forces "rebel against this unfair strike, with all the means of pressure at their disposal".
Likewise, it has recalled that the Government of the Canary Islands has asked that 100 percent of minimum services be established, although it has also asked the Executive to demand the definitive regulation of the right to strike in airport services. In this sense, it has demanded that the central government regulate by law the right to strike in sectors that can "strangle transport or the economic recovery of the country".
Aetur has requested that all efforts be made to ensure that "reason and responsibility prevail" to reach an agreement "quickly and lastingly".
