The course, which has a duration of 50 hours, has been taught by the Canary Islands Security Academy to a total of eleven Emerlan volunteers from the mountain group, which enables them to obtain the title of Height Rescue Technician.
On this occasion, the practices were carried out in various points of the island's geography, mainly in the places where sport climbing, mountaineering and enclaves are practiced, where it is necessary to use height techniques to correctly carry out a rescue intervention. These areas were the Risco de Famara, in the area of the Ermita de las Nieves and the Bosquecillo, as well as "el 34" a vertical wall near the town of Guatiza.
The person in charge of teaching the course was the Instructor and rescuer of the helicopter of the G.E.S (Emergency and Rescue Group) of the Government of the Canary Islands, based on the island of La Palma.
Intensively and professionally, techniques of descent and ascent by rope, review of climbing equipment, belaying and rescue situations on a stretcher and with a rescuer, among others, were practiced.
The assessment of the course was "tremendously positive", according to Emerlan, because "it not only offers a complete training by an active member of mountain rescues, but also increases the skill of our volunteers to achieve a vertical rescue in conditions of maximum safety and efficiency", they say.
According to the press release, this type of course responds to the interest that the organization has "in specialized training for our volunteers and so that Lanzarote, to the extent of our possibilities, is a safer island and we have the necessary means and resources to cover any type of incident".
