The Municipal Theater of Tías will host next Thursday, December 15, the presentation of "Lanzarote Music", the new record by Toñín Corujo, in which he puts sound "to the landscape, history and people" of the island.
"Mancha Blanca" is the theme that leads his new album. A name that evokes the rites and festivals that commemorate a chapter in the memory of the people, in a sanctuary where the vestiges of the eruption endure, with the mixture of faith and the Dionysian ceremony.
On this occasion the artist immerses himself in a world of symbolism under titles such as Famara, Agua, Malvasía volcánica or Gofio, which evoke places or elements rooted in the popular culture of Lanzarote.
The edition offers themes dedicated to characters such as César Manrique, Jesús Soto and Leandro Perdomo. Suenhos, Bicicleta Espacial and Marítimo complete this album.
Toñín Corujo has delighted with previous productions, such as "Arrecife", in 2004, and "Sal y Arena", in 2007, a compendium of musical narrations around the island's geography.
For this new work he has had the participation of well-known Canarian artists such as the composers Juan Carlos Pérez Brito, Javier Cerpa, Israel Curbelo and Pedro Mejía. Toñín Corujo and his collaborators delve smoothly into the fusion of Canarian music with the jazz avant-gardes of the world.
This work is produced by Tocoyma Records and has had the support of the Government of the Canary Islands through the sponsorship of Canarias Cultura en Red.
In the concert, Toñín Corujo will be accompanied by Carlos Pérez, on saxophone; Máté Szabó, on bass; Israel Curbelo, on keyboards, piano and cajón; Pedro Mejía, with acoustic and electric guitars; Domingo Corujo, with the classical guitar; and Manuel Becerra, on drums and percussion, while also being the musical producer and arranger of this CD. The guitarist Diego Barber and the double bassist Marco Varelo will be guest artists at this concert.
The concert will take place on December 15, at 9:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of Tías. Tickets, for 7 euros, can be purchased at the Toñín Corujo Music School, Figueroa 20 Arrecife and the Tías Culture Department, as well as at the box office, from one hour before the show.
