The Fishermen's Association of La Graciosa will celebrate this Saturday an emotional tribute to Marcos Páez, who died in November 2009 and is considered by many sailors as the driving force behind the improvement and development of the fishing sector on the eighth island. The event will be held at 8:00 p.m.
The meeting, which has the support of the population of Caleta de Sebo, will be held with the collaboration of the Teguise City Council, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands. The wife and children of the deceased will be the center of this tribute.
"Marcos Páez was the chief master of the Fishermen's Association of La Graciosa and Fisheries Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote on several occasions. He held both positions for a long time and during his mandates he achieved or promoted, among other things, the better conditioning of the port of La Graciosa; the fishing shelter; the extension of the mooring line; the improvement of the slipway; provision of cold storage; the start-up of the first sale and fish market; and the dispensing of fuel in the port of Graciosa", said the Councilor for Culture of the Teguise City Council, Oswaldo Betancort.
During the event, the documentary "Marco Páez Morales, a man of the sea" will be screened, and the Parranda La Octava and El Golpito will also perform.
