Risto Mejide, a member of the jury in the previous edition of Operación Triunfo, has declared that the quality of the participants in the OT 2008 casting in Las Palmas has been "tremendously weak".

Only three applicants out of the 523 people who showed up for the "Operación Triunfo 2008" casting in Las Palmas, will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills for the song in the final casting, which will be held after Easter and will feature different tests from which the finalists will be chosen in the first gala.

This year's casting, which has already been attended by 8,332 people and will culminate in Madrid on March 15, has featured familiar faces from the famous contest as jury members; Noemí García, casting director of Gestmusic; Risto Mejide, publicist and member of the jury in the previous edition of Operación Triunfo, and Ángel Llácer, actor and theater director, who has participated in several editions of OT as an acting teacher.

Risto Mejide has highlighted that this year the quality of the participants has been quite scarce, "so what we have seen this year, of the worst cities in Spain, especially when Las Palmas has always been considered one of the "strongholds of the contest", according to Noemí Galera.

At a general level, the jury members agree that the people who have applied for the castings have a very large musical deficiency, "they do not have musical knowledge", as stated by the casting director of Gestmusic, who believes that "the style that the kids feed on is always the same", in reference to what they listen to on the radio. In fact, two of the qualities they look for in the kids who apply is that they do not imitate the gestures or twists of other artists, and above all, have well-prepared the repertoire that they are going to defend in the tests.
