The relatives of four young migrants who left Morocco for Lanzarote are desperately and unsuccessfully searching for their children. Mohamed Laajane, Abi Benhoua, Mohamed Tissir and Abdeltif El Mirachi left Morocco aboard a rubber dinghy on October 25. So far their family knows nothing about them.
The four are part of a group of friends from the same town, Safi, a coastal city near Casablanca and from which the dinghy left two weeks ago. Since they left in one "of the boats of death" two weeks ago, their family has not spoken to them again.
In the town of Safi, these young people between 20 and 38 years old were united by the Al-Mbek Safi football club. The family fears that their bodies will swell the data of deaths on the migratory route to the Canary Islands, the deadliest in the world, and that in the first five months of the year it had already left 4,808 dead, according to the report Monitoring the Right to Life by Caminando Fronteras.
The migratory route to the Canary Islands is marked by its dangerousness. Just a few days ago, last Sunday, November 3, Maritime Rescue tried to save the lives of the crew of two rubber dinghies that were sinking about 90 kilometers from Lanzarote. As narrated by the Efe Agency, the Sasemar 103 plane launched a life raft from the air so that the survivors of the first shipwreck could climb aboard.
With that raft 17 people were rescued, while the Helimer 204 helicopter managed to rescue a survivor who was still in the water and identified up to five corpses floating that were not recovered.
The Helimer 204 helicopter then moved to a second rescue and the Salvamar Al Nair took aboard the 17 people from the raft and around 80 who were in a second dinghy. That Sunday the corpse of a young woman of Maghrebi origin was rescued.
Last Tuesday, November 5, Maritime Rescue, alerted by a fishing boat that was fishing nearby, recovered the bodies of two young Maghrebi men, around 20 years old, 11 kilometers from the coast of Lanzarote.
At the time of the collection of the bodies, one of them was wearing a life jacket and the other the tube of a tire around his chest. According to judicial sources revealed to La Voz, until the morning of this Wednesday it had not been possible to perform the autopsy of any of the bodies.
