The Ministry of Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs has published, through the Autonomous National Parks Agency and together with the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, the geological guide of the Timanfaya National Park. This publication explains the different types of volcanic rocks found in the park and its surroundings, as well as the geological processes that have created such a unique volcanic landscape.
The book is structured in two parts, the first offering general explanations of the park, and the second analyzing the six itineraries with descriptions about the geology of different places in the National Park, such as the Route of the Volcanoes, the Coastal Path, the Termesana Mountain Path, the White Caldera, the southwest coast (El Golfo-Hervideros-Salinas del Janubio) and the protected landscape of La Geria.
This publication, which has a divulgative character and belongs to the series "Geological Guides of the Spanish National Parks", offers the keys to understanding the processes that have shaped these mountains and helps to recognize in the field the most diverse geological features of the area.
Photographs and schemes
The book, which is illustrated with a large number of photographs and schemes, is completed with a map in which the geological units with significance in the evolution and genesis of the landscape are represented, and a geomorphological map that contemplates the main elements of the relief and the most important active processes that affect this territory. In addition, it includes a list of relevant bibliography and a glossary of geological terms.
This guide can be purchased through the publications department of the Autonomous National Parks Agency.
