The environmental association Papa Cría has positively valued the initiative of removing the bins from Famara beach, following the decision taken on July 8, 2022 by the Teguise City Council.
The City Council removed the bins from the beaches of San Juan and Famara as a result of a proposal promoted and documented by the Waste Working Group of the Local Council of the Famara Biosphere Reserve, resulting from the participatory process initiated 4 months ago in the town.
After two months of the launch of this initiative, the association emphasizes that “the effectiveness of the same” could be verified. “The bins were replaced by temporary posters on the need to take responsibility for the garbage we generate, which were removed once the objective was achieved,” they detail from Papa Cría.
The association wants to highlight “the collaboration of the town and users of this place, demonstrating once again the commitment and respect of citizens with the environment”. “We are prepared for changes in favor of the environment and whose results are already being seen in other parts of the world”, he adds.
In addition, Papa Cría invites the rest of the public administrations to remove the bins from natural spaces on the island, evidencing “its effectiveness with the aforementioned initiative”. “With which it can be concluded that the process promoted by the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Teguise City Council has been a success, Thank you!” he concludes.
