The Cabildo of Lanzarote opened this past Monday the deadline to apply for onion seeds and seedbeds for the realization of chives seedbeds.
The registration period will remain open until July 31, while the distribution of seeds and the realization of seedbeds will take place from September 4 to 15.
The president and Minister of Agriculture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that the objective of this action is to "provide farmers with onion seeds and land to make the chives seedbed, water for irrigation, fertilizer and phytosanitary treatments, in order to reduce the risks and costs of cultivation for this group and contribute to the development of the sector".
The necessary documentation to apply for the seeds is the accreditation of the condition of professional or part-time farmer and the data of the plots in which the seeds will be sown (municipality, polygon, plot).
To be eligible for the seeds, you must be a professional farmer, that is, that the income of the owner from agricultural activities is greater than or equal to 25%; or be a part-time farmer registered in the REGEPA; have a project, that is, natural or legal persons who present an agricultural project linked to the cultivation of Lanzarote seeds, or be an amateur farmer, in which case they will only receive the seeds if there are stocks available.
Professional and project farmers will have preference to apply for the seeds. The seeds will be distributed until the end of stock, considering the preferences indicated above and the order of application. The farmer must carry out all the sowing and weeding work of the crop, the irrigation, fertilization and treatments will be carried out by the staff of the Agricultural Farm.
Registrations are made electronically, through the website of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, or in person at the offices of the Experimental Agricultural Farm.
