The Management of the Lanzarote Health Services, the Medical Directorate of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital and the entire team of professionals at the center have expressed in a letter their "regret and pain" for the death of Doctor Fernando Conde Fernández, head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology service, who passed away this Saturday at the age of 59. His colleagues also wanted to send their condolences to his wife Menchu and his daughters Julia and Carmen, as well as recognize the career of "a dedicated doctor".

"Fernando Conde was a professional who was well-loved and respected by his colleagues at the Hospital, where he arrived in the early 2000s from the Don Benito Hospital in Badajoz", they explain in their writing. Born in Pontevedra, he studied Medicine at the University of Santiago and obtained his doctorate in Poland, continued his training in England, where he also worked for 12 years. At Molina Orosa he has developed a large part of his professional career as a gynecologist and in 2015 he assumed the Head of Service after the retirement of his colleague, Doctor Ruperto Morales Lugo.

After learning of his death, many colleagues have lamented his departure and wanted to point out the qualities of this professional, whom many say goodbye to as a great friend. "A friend and colleague has left, a person who lived with enthusiasm and maintained it until the last moment. An example of integrity for all of us. I will miss him"; "Today Fernando Conde has left, after resisting leaving us. I hope he has a good trip and gives us a hand from wherever he is, this Galician with personality", they wrote in the WhatsApp group they maintained with the rest of the Heads of Service.

"Those who knew him best point out that if something defined Fernando Conde it is his love for his family, for Menchu, his wife, and for his daughters, Julia and Carmen, whom he convinced to study medicine, his other great passion. Without a doubt, they were his heaven on earth", they add in the letter that they have made public from the Hospital.

Those who were part of his team highlight "his enormous generosity, his capacity for work and his great organization". "He had the ability to end any meeting with a smile, above any discrepancies there may have been, and he greatly respected the opinion of his colleagues"; "he was a man with a great sense of humor, who also had a special ability to make complex issues easy. For all this, working with him was pleasant", his colleagues add.

Of him, they also point out "his enormous strength", since despite suffering from a serious illness that was diagnosed in 2018, "he barely stopped working" and going to the Hospital. "In fact, he went home in March, a week before the state of alert", they emphasize.

"In these times in which we cannot say goodbye to the people who leave us, nor accompany their loved ones, the Hospital says goodbye with enormous sadness to Fernando Conde, a great and good person, a dedicated doctor, and an enormous fighter who in the last years of his life, he showed us, with his perseverance, how important his profession was", they conclude in their writing.
