They consider that the Department's plan for returning to class at this center is an "outrage", because instead of creating more groups to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, they have reduced them.

Protest at CEIP Costa Teguise

Parents and students of the Costa Teguise school staged a protest this Monday at the doors of the center to denounce the conditions in which the return to classrooms will take place. "Health is not a game" and "we want solutions" are some of the messages they have displayed on different banners, to demand more teachers and fewer students in each classroom.

With this concentration, the Pejeverde Association of Mothers and Fathers has once again denounced that instead of increasing the number of groups for this start of the course marked by the coronavirus, what the Ministry of Education has done is reduce them, going from 33 in 2019 to 31 now. This is one more group than had been initially announced, but the parents still consider it insufficient and also question that three mixed groups of different levels are contemplated.

In addition, they recall that they had been demanding improvements in this school and a reduction in the ratio in the classrooms for years, due to the fact that it has been expanded with barracks. "With the above and despite going through the biggest global pandemic that our generation has known, Education eliminates two groups compared to the previous year, which translates into a greater number of students per class", they denounce, recalling that one of the main health recommendations to stop the spread of Covid-19 is social distance.

In this regard, they emphasize that the barracks of this school do not allow maintaining that social distance, nor do they have the necessary "ventilation conditions". For this reason, they describe the actions of the Ministry as an "outrage" and again criticize its "lack of sensitivity" with this center, which has "the largest number of barracks in the Canary Islands", which has "scarce recreational areas" and which "also lacks shade areas".
