A resident of Teguise has reported waiting two days for an autopsy to be performed on his brother, who died suddenly on Tuesday. "It's a disgrace," says this man, who criticizes that his family has had to wait this long to bury his brother.
According to this man, his brother has not had an autopsy until this Thursday due to the lack of a forensic assistant. "The coroner himself told us that it would take 24 to 72 hours because he had no assistant," says this citizen, who believes that the Government of the Canary Islands "lied" when it announced that it would fill this position.
And, after La Voz published the complaint of another family about the lack of forensic assistants in Lanzarote at the end of last January, the general director of Relations with the Administration of Justice of the Canary Islands Government, Marta Bonnet, announced that "in the coming days" one would be hired. "We are hurting, because we have been here for two days, tired of everything," says this resident of Teguise now a month later.
In response, La Voz de Lanzarote has contacted the Government of the Canary Islands again this Thursday to find out the reason for these new delays in autopsies and whether a forensic assistant was finally hired on the island or not. However, so far, the regional Executive has not responded.
Precisely, this Friday, the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, is scheduled to visit the Cabildo and the Courts of Arrecife, where he will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Carla Vallejo, and the General Director of Relations with the Administration of Justice, Marta Bonnet.
