Yaiza began last Saturday the commemorative events for the municipality obtaining the title of Historical City, in a solemn and cultural act that also featured the musical performance of the group Los Gofiones and a "remarkable participation" of neighbors and civil and military authorities, according to the City Council.
"The title of Historical City that we have obtained allows us to improve the municipality's presentation, a piece of news that we received with joy, rightly assessing its importance," emphasized the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Javier Camacho, recalled that with "this act we begin the celebration of an important date for Yaiza, as we have recovered something that belonged to us by right, the title of City." To this end, he recalled that the City Council has programmed a series of events until October 30 "taking into account the culture of care, as a common, supportive, and participatory commitment."
The Yaiza City Council completed all the necessary procedures to achieve the desired goal: to recover a title, that of City, which had been lost in time, and add the title of Historical, based on its extensive past and present, for which the Institution presented the Government of the Canary Islands with a report documented in historical, cultural, and social facts.
A title granted in April 2020
"We had to recover what was lost, what was documentarily proven, especially when we have become, over time, one of the world's leading references in the culture of landscape, the environment, and tourism," says the mayor. Furthermore, he asserts that the Corporation, and he himself as mayor, decided to play this card from conviction. "It was our duty to the residents of Yaiza and to the work of all those who have preceded us in the local government," the mayor stated.
Although the Government Decree confirming the title of Historical City was published in April 2020, in the midst of the confinement period due to the pandemic, it is now that the administration has considered that the security conditions are in place to carry out the program of celebrations.
"Los Gofiones put the finishing touch to a wonderful night in a spectacular setting and atmosphere, performing traditional music and music from other latitudes, understanding that multiculturalism is another of the hallmarks of Yaiza and the Canarian people," they emphasize from the City Council. In addition, soloists invited by Los Gofiones, such as the young singer from Uga, Elieser Betancort, and another established voice from the Island, Ciro Corujo, were also protagonists.
