Despite the increase in Covid cases, which has returned Lanzarote to the highest level of risk in the accumulated incidence, the island will continue for another week at alert level 2. This was agreed this Thursday by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, which has reviewed the levels of all the islands and has only approved changes in Fuerteventura, which will drop to level 2 together with Lanzarote and La Graciosa. For their part, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro will continue at level 3.
The Ministry emphasizes that the indicators of bed occupancy in hospitals "are now the determinants for analyzing the trend and severity caused by Covid-19", and that is what has prevented Lanzarote from rising in level. And despite the increase in positive coronavirus cases, hospital pressure is at "very low" risk on the island.
Regarding the archipelago as a whole, the Ministry of Health highlights that "healthcare indicators show a favorable evolution and the daily average of occupied conventional hospital beds decreases by 24% compared to the previous week", and is already at "medium risk". As for ICU beds, occupancy has also decreased by 19%.
Epidemiological indicators
Regarding infections, they have increased not only in Lanzarote, but also in La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, according to the Ministry. However, in the Canary Islands as a whole there has been a reduction of 13.8% in the daily average of new cases in relation to the previous week.
Even so, all the islands are at a very high risk level in this indicator, except for Fuerteventura, which has decreased to a high risk level.
Regarding the incidence in people over 65 years of age, it has also decreased in the Canary Islands average but has increased in Lanzarote, together with La Palma and La Gomera. In this indicator, all the islands are at very high risk.
