After the strike of the workers of the Lanzarote Bus group ended on January 14, after more than 40 days and after an “approach of the parties”, the Assembly will now debate the possibility of resuming it.
From Intersindical Canaria, a union that has promoted and promoted the workers' demands, they maintain that on January 26 the adaptation of the split working day was proposed in the commission, and that the company indicated that they would respond “on Friday, January 28.”
However, the company later postponed it to Monday, January 31, again failing to meet the deadline, and today they are still waiting for a response. “The workers understand that the management's will to solve the problem is nil,” they point out.
The union considers this situation “a lack of respect” on the part of Lanzarote Bus towards its workers. In addition, IC points out that this episode is added to the fact that the company has once again discounted the payrolls of the staff for the month of January, in an “unjustified and oversized” manner. “There are workers who performed 100% of the minimum services, and have not received more than 500 euros,” criticized the secretary of the Federation of Transport of Intersindical Canaria, José Manuel Moreno, on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero.
From Intersindical Canaria they point out that if before 3:00 p.m. this Thursday, the commission appointed for the adaptation of the split working day does not receive the company's response in writing, “the postponed strike will be reactivated within the terms established by current law.”
“The spirits are quite strong, and some were even willing not to go to work from today,” Moreno pointed out. “We are not going to allow anyone to treat workers like slaves,” he concludes.
