César Bona, the only Spanish candidate for the "Global Teacher Prize," visited Lanzarote this Saturday. The teacher was invited by the Tías City Council, where he gave a conference at the Municipal Theater about the role of teachers and education.

Nearly 500 people attended the event, including teachers and also parents who wanted to see this young professor live and in person, who is aspiring to the "Global Teacher Prize," the 'Nobel Prize for Teachers,' which values the work of teachers who open the minds of students and encourage others to become teachers.

Before the talk, Bona participated on Saturday morning in a meeting with journalists from the island in the press room of the Tías City Council. During the press conference, he was accompanied by the Mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the Deputy Mayor, Mame Fernández, and the Councilor for Education, Aroa Pérez. At this meeting, César Bona emphasized that he is in favor of using the Internet in classes because this "opens the imagination of schoolchildren."

Every child is special

In the 5th grade B class of the Puerta de Sancho public school in Zaragoza, where Bona García teaches, all students have a position. From Paula, who is the Head of Recycling, to Rubén, who is the Defender of Reading, passing through the members of the Journalism Commission, the Curious One, the Blind Raiser, the Lawyer, the Historian, the Appointment Taker, the Person in Charge of the Black List of those who Talked Too Much, or the Leader of the Insurgents. The 22 children, between 10 and 11 years old, "take their responsibility with pride." Their tutor, César Bona, emphasizes that he has managed to make everyone "feel important."

César Bona has become very famous in a short time for having been chosen as one of the 50 candidates for the Global Teacher Prize, which, on March 16, the Varkey Gems Foundation will award in Dubai with an endowment of one million dollars. The award organizers reported that Bona's selection is due to the fact that he is "a tireless defender of children's rights" and for "believing in the creative potential of children."

This 42-year-old graduate in English Philology and diploma in Teaching, born in Ainzón (Zaragoza), spoke in Tías about 'the challenges and challenges of the teacher', in a session open to all the public who wished to attend the Tías Theater. Among the attendees was David García González, director of the Alcalde Rafael Cedrés public school in Tías. After Bona's talk, García González emphasized that "there is no comparable pleasure as that of spreading enthusiasm" and thanked Bona "for transmitting it."

The Department of Education of the Tías City Council, which is headed by Aroa Pérez, extended the invitation to the teacher to travel to Lanzarote and talk about his experience as a teacher and the good role of education.
