Canal Gestión Lanzarote has responded to the statements of the councilor and president of the Water Consortium, Andrés Stinga, on Radio Lanzarote -Onda Cero, in which he assured that the concessionaire company had not reported the state of the underwater pipeline of La Graciosa, something that the company claims to have done repeatedly in recent years.
"This company flatly denies that the Lanzarote Water Consortium had not been warned of the critical situation of the supply of La Graciosa on numerous occasions. In fact, there are different documents on record that attest to this," it maintains, citing up to five reports, files and reports dated between 2019 and May of this year.
The company adds that in each and every one of these documents "the critical situation that the general supply system of the island of La Graciosa has been suffering for years" is exposed. In one of them, it warned that "in the event that the Lanzarote Water Consortium does not execute the investments described and listed below in order of priority, Canal Gestión Lanzarote will not be responsible for the shortage of supply to the island of La Graciosa due to the lack of infrastructure to cover the island's demand and the obsolescence of the current materials, which with each passing year increases the possibility that these events will occur and cause serious disruptions to the population of La Graciosa.”
Among the investments described, according to Canal Gestión, are the "execution of the duplication of the underwater transport water network; renovation of the existing transport pipeline between the Guatifay reservoir and the underwater network and complete renovation of the Caleta de Sebo distribution network."
On the other hand, Canal Gestión assures that it is also obliged to deny that this company, or its highest representative, "has been summoned at any time by the Lanzarote Water Consortium or any other organization to any type of formal or informal meeting to discuss this problem", contrary to what was stated by Andrés Stinga. "And, much less, that they have failed to attend", he adds.
"The company clarifies that its position as a concessionaire has always been one of respect towards the Lanzarote Water Consortium and the contract that regulates this concession. And it will continue to be so. However, this company understands that it is necessary to clarify the existing doubts with objective information," he adds.
The company defends that since Canal Gestión Lanzarote began its activity, "one of its lines of work has always been focused on advising and informing the owner of the service, the Lanzarote Water Consortium, of the shortcomings, needs, urgencies and providing solutions, so that this entity could make the appropriate decisions, prioritizing according to its own criteria." In addition, they point out that at this point, Canal Gestión Lanzarote, "is merely the manager of the existing infrastructures that make up the integral water cycle."
"Without wanting to enter into further controversies and being aware that at this time the main victims are the residents and visitors of La Graciosa, this company once again shows its willingness to collaborate and participate in as many issues as are required and raised by the Water Consortium," he concludes.
