The student of the School of Arts and Crafts Pancho Lasso, Leila Prieto, has been the author of the Carnival poster of Arrecife 2008. This center was in charge of convening the contest, to which approximately 40 posters were presented, to choose the winner. Prieto will receive 1200 euros as a prize.
In the presentation were present in addition to the student of Pancho Lasso, the mayor of the City of Arrecife, Enrique Pérez Parrilla, and the councilor of Culture and Festivities of the Corporation, Miguel Ángel Ferrer.
Changes in the Carnival
"I hope that Arrecife recovers what I think has gone downhill" Parrilla said regarding the celebration of this festival. This year the City Council plans to start "the recovery" of the Carnival. And for this, Ferrer has stated that "there will be changes". The councilor has expressed the intention of the City Council to "leave aside a little" the José Ramírez Cerdá Park and return to developing events in the Islas Canarias Park or in its vicinity. "Part of the essence of the Carnival is that it is done in the center" Ferrer said. Regarding the complaints of the neighbors for the noises and annoyances that this fact entails, he has affirmed that the City Council will hold meetings with them to discuss this issue.
