Movimiento por la Paz, el Desarme y la Libertad en Canarias (MPDLC) has been developing, since last month, a road safety education project in Lanzarote aimed at schoolchildren aged between 10 and 12 years old. The aim is to carry out an awareness-raising campaign on the correct use of transport, the need to respect traffic signs, as well as to promote the use of ecological transport.
The initiative is being carried out in four schools, in each of which a pedagogue and a socio-cultural animator are responsible for developing the project over the course of a week. The programmed activities focus on talks aimed at raising awareness among students about the different aspects of road safety education, as well as the implementation of a circuit with bicycles that allows students to put into practice the knowledge they have received. The program is also completed with a bicycle activity for students on public roads.
The initiative developed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote is ten years old, however, this is the first time that the island corporation has decided that the aforementioned project should be executed by an external entity with experience in initiatives linked to coexistence, as is the case of MPDLC. The execution of the project will be extended until the end of June and its financing is borne by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Department of Youth, Sports and Road Safety.
